Today is my birthday! I started the day in the sunshine, standing ankle-deep in run-off water, having my picture taken for my new sock pattern. I can tell you…water that cold is painful. Really. Burningly, numbingly painful. I’ve had better ideas. Here’s where the water came from…
And here is Yours Truly standing in it. Passing motorists were amused.
In honor of my 55th, I’d like to kick off a week of little gifts for you starting tomorrow with the release of a new pattern which will be free all weekend until Monday, March 14. Free Pattern Friday will take place as usual with a jolly little pattern called Mrs. Pickles, but with an extra mid-week coordinating treat! All together, that will make 4 free patterns for your knitting pleasure! Won’t that be fun? We can celebrate all week 🙂
It’s been a great week of knitting, especially the weekend. KSPS, the PBS affiliate in Spokane, ran every single Downton Abbey episode leading up to the finale on Sunday night. I spent the entire weekend sitting in front of the television, knitting. Soooo happy! In addition to working up the next few Free Pattern Friday projects, I put in some swatching time. Up to now, I just could not get the look I wanted for my Martha Cardigan. I broke through on Sunday, though!
It’s subtle, but exactly what I’d been looking for, bobbles and all. I’m so happy about this yarn, Rowan Felted Tweed, and about discovering the beauty of woolen-spun yarns. So airy, light and delicate but lovely and warm as well.
Last week, I’d sketched up a fingerless mitten idea that was floating in my head, also using Rowan Felted Tweed. I wanted a denim-y, high/low effect, so I’ve worked in some pretty beads I found at Knitter’s Frolic last year. I haven’t quite got the inset worked out the way I’d like, but I will!
For my next trick, I shall decamp to the sofa where I will watch my favorite movie, “The Women”. Later this evening, hubby will be taking me to the Merrill Inn where I will smash my diet into tiny little pieces 😀 See you on the other side!

Hope you had a wonderful birthday and I think that picture of you in the water is delightful … eventhough it might have been seriously cold!

It was ridiculously cold! But thanks 🙂

That sounds like a lovely set of days 🙂 Enjoy

Happiest of days to you! Even looking at that icy water makes my feet ache with cold! I hope you can toast them warm again by the fire.
That Rowan felted tweed is gorgeous for your Martha. Once, long ago, I made my husband a pair of socks out of felted tweed. So pretty and so not the right yarn. I think they lasted 3 whole months before they had holes. now I know enough to use a more appropriate yarn – I learned that lesson, but there always seems to be another in store. If I’m smart, I learn it in one go round. If not, I get to make the mistake several times before it sinks in!
