Good morning, knitters! It’s been a productive week! I’ve been doing a little Holiday decorating. I have a couple of finished objects, one to talk about and one that’s secret. I’ve made lots of progress on my Maypole Shawl and there’s a new pair of mittens out there with my name on ’em!
Tarpon
It’s done! The Tarpon pullover, worked from Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, was such a quick, delightful knit that I’m considering knocking out a black one too. It was the perfect mixture of “pay-attention” cable knitting and those simple rounds of stockinette that make for great car or Tipsy Knitters knitting.
I think I will live in this sweater. The cotton and merino blend of fibers is just perfect for the climate here. And I love the way it fits. Though I’m excited to wear it, I’m trying to keep it fresh for photos. Tarpon will be released for beta knitting next week. Shoot me an email if you’re interested in participating in the test process.
The Secret Project
I’ve been working on this project for the good folks at Hudson + West pretty much non-stop since Halloween. I’m in love with it and I can’t wait to share the details. Mostly I’m in love with this green! Usually, I’m not that excited by greens but this is just so deep and sophisticated and enigmatic. I think you’ll enjoy this new pattern. It is modern and retro simultaneously and has a hot new shape.
Durham
Last week my new Durham Mittens pattern was released by Cascade Yarns. These handsome cabled mittens are worked in Eco Merino DK and, boy, what a stellar yarn! With an updated shade card that includes some heavenly naturals, Eco Merino is soft and wooly and perfect for sweaters and accessories. I remember working on these in the heat of the summer and enjoying every minute. Just a heads up…there will be a matching hat pattern coming out soon!
Maypole Shawl
Recently, I had an urge to knit the Maypole Shawl, a semi-circular wrap that has been part of my catalogue since May of 2018. The original was (beautifully!) knitted by Tipsy Knitter Shay so I’d never had a shot at knitting it myself. Though I love the yarns used in the original, I felt the lace pattern got a little lost in the variegated yarn of the border. I’ve spent some really enjoyable kitting time with CashLux Spark by Sweet Georgia Yarns. and have nearly finished a second incarnation. The color, a tonal, is magnificent; each stitch shows a slightly different shade and it’s all highlighted with silver stellina. It’s going to be heaven this winter! I’m nearly done. I’ve bound off and am now working the scalloped I-cord trim.
I hope your knitting time was wonderful this week!
Love,
Cheryl
