Well, it’s over for another year. All that’s left is the glitter and a pile of plastic beads. We came through it unscathed with some pretty pictures and some lovely time spent with friends. Although it was a short and rushed Mardi Gras, I have nice memories. Since I was Queen of my Krewe this year, it was a special Mardi Gras for me.
There is so very, very much knitting going on! I’m working furiously and I have two helpers, soon to grow by two or three more. It’s all hands to the wheel at the moment, I’m happy to say. We’re doing everything from sweaters to socks; there is even a coat on the needles! I’ve received messages from a few knitters who’ve expressed an interest in test and sample knitting and from some who simply want to follow the work that’s going on. I’ve started a new Ravelry group, Friends of Littlechurch Knits, where folks can keep up-to-date on new designs, publications, pattern discounts and general chat. I hope you’ll pop in!
Here is a sampling of things that arrived at 716 last week, delivered by our truly stalwart UPS guy who, dodging parades on every corner, still managed to get my yarn goodies delivered in record time. (I’m glad we left him a box of cookies at Christmas time!)
This color! “Tart”. I love it and I’m seeing it pop up all over the place lately, such as at the Olympics. In last night’s Ice Dancing event, I saw no fewer than 4 skating costumes in this deep, brooding shade of red. As for the yarn, it is a pleasure. MadTosh Merino DK is a very firm, round yarn, perfect for cables and other detailed stitch patterns, with a silky sheen. It creates a very dense, stable fabric. It is soft as butter, yet very firm in the hand, and shows occasional unspun fluffs of the deepest shade, nearly black. I like it! Which is good because there is a pile of it to knit.
Then I received two separate stacks of an old friend:
When I passed this to Miss Lauren to be made into a sweater, I told her she was about to fall in love and I bet she will!
In my personal world of color, grey and off-white are central. Add Carrie’s Yellow and Pike’s Ferry and I think it’s a perfect combination. Fresh, a little bold and not far off neutral suits me just fine.
So, how about those Tipsy Knitters!?! Growing in numbers every week, soon we’ll need another table at the Pearl Wine Bar in Mid-City. We’re sampling some lovely wines and meeting some very interesting people. This will be our first week without cake <yikes>. If you’re in New Orleans or coming to the city on vacation be sure to stop in! We can also be found on Meet Up (bear with us…the group is currently full, but we’ll be upgrading shortly), on Ravelry and on Facebook. Speaking of the Tipsy’s…co-founder Lauren has organized a cool little field trip for us:
The New Orleans Baby Cakes (originally the Zephyrs) are a minor league baseball team based in Metairie, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. The Baby Cakes play in the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The Baby Cakes play their home games at Shrine on Airline.
The Tipsy Knitters will be knitting at the Baby Cakes Stitch ‘n Pitch night at a date TBD. Many of us will be knitting for charity…I’ll be designing a free pattern for preemies and a free pattern for chemo caps. If you can’t join us in person, perhaps you’ll knit along at home? I’ll be posting updates and details here and in both groups.
Well, I guess that’s all the news that fit to print! Hope you’re happily knitting!
