Good morning, knitters! I hope you’re well. Over the last little while, I’ve been posting about my many sock patterns-in-progress. I think my favorite of the bunch are the Sterling Socks that feature a sweet, antique stitch pattern of miniature fountains.
Today, I’m happy to say, the Sterling Socks are ready for a test knit! I’ve written the pattern in draft form, checked the math and examined it for errors. It is totally ready to go to a few interested knitters.
Each year while unpacking at the Sterling Renaissance Festival, I encounter an old, hand knitted shawl. (I’m sure it was already old when it was purchased, probably from some nearby thrift store.) Although it is severely felted and shrunken to a fraction of its original size, I always admire it and feel a particular love for the old-fashioned stitch pattern worked in panels along its length. I’ve recreated that stitch pattern in these sweet socks made even more special by yarn dyed by hand and purchased at the festival.
The Sterling Socks are worked from the toe up starting with Judy’s Magic Cast On. They feature the ever-so-easy Fleegle heel that leads up to a 6-1/2″ cuff. The Fountain Stitch is easy to knit and easy to memorize.
Sterling Socks can be made in any fingering weight sock yarn, but I have a special preference for Flock Sock by Holiday Yarns. This yarn is richly hand-dyed in Upstate New York and has wonderful hosiery twist making it firm and round and durable. It comes in scores of lovely tonals. This gorgeous shade is called Peachy Keen and is available through the Holiday Yarns FB page.
If you’re interested testing this pattern, please shoot me an email to cheryl@littlechurchknits.com and I’ll send the pattern. Looking forward to hearing from you!
