Recalled to Life

This month’s WIPs focus on two patterns that have been recalled to life. I so enjoy a do-over that I’m refreshing two patterns, one that’s been seriously under-loved and another that may have seen a little too much love. It’s so great to have a second crack at things, especially when a little time has elapsed. Sometimes as a Designer, I’m not in control of yarn or color choices and sometimes that makes all the difference. Take for example…

BRISBANE

This little hat deserves another chance. Brisbane deserves to be recalled to life. Though I loved the prescribed yarn – Bijou Basin Ranch Xanadu – it is a light fingering cashmere and really too light in weight. (It has also been discontinued). Sadly, it just didn’t have the body that this hat requires. Its silky softness melted away the stitch definition and made the details appear tiny and insignificant. Although it’s a pretty little beanie, I want to experiment with a deeper crown and some alternative shaping.

I’ve had two skeins of Valley Yarns Huntington in my stash for quite some time so I pulled them out yesterday. I think they’ll be perfect for the Brisbane Redux. I’m just about finished with the ribbing and I can already feel the difference. Huntington is a nice soft merino sock yarn with a good amount of body. I’m looking forward to seeing some definition in the cables and open work. Also, I love the color, #27 Bluestone.

MARTHA

If you’ve been following along at all, you’ll know that I love my Martha Cardigan. That’s why I’ve decided that it should be recalled to life in the form of a pullover. I’ve shared photos of the Martha Pullover before, but I’ve made some good progress since then. I’m just about to start the chart on the second sleeve which means I’ve got less than 6″ to go!

Martha Pullover nearly done

I’m so pleased with this. Because it is worked top down, I’ve been able to to try it on. The length is just right and I feel like it has the perfect amount of positive ease. The Rowan Cotton Cashmere is very light and very luxurious and I’ve really enjoyed working with it. The color is heaven, having a slightly pearly quality. Can’t wait to block it! Keep an eye out for the Beta Call which will probably come out on Monday, August 16.

So there you have it! Though this is not the sum total of my knitting over the last few weeks, I think I’ll keep some tidbits to share with you a little later 🙂 Hope your knitting is happy!

I'd love to hear from you!
