Hello knitters! I love my job! Here it is, mid-day on a Wednesday. Though I didn’t expect to be, I’m sitting in a beautiful coffee shop way ‘cross town. Soul sister Glinda fell off her bike yesterday and needed to get to the Chiropractor. I’m so grateful that I can usually do my work from anywhere leaving me free to help when I’m needed.
This gorgeous old room is the Rue de la Course coffee shop located in uptown New Orleans at Carrollton and Oak Streets. I think it was once a bank. The latte is delicious and the cheese danish are fabulous!
Since I’m behind the bar most Saturdays, I’m keeping Mondays pretty low key. Apart from blogging and offering up my weekly features, Mondays have become my Knitting-In-Bars Day. This week, I spent Monday afternoon with the lovely and talented Susie Kates (Susie Kates Designs) at one of the French Quarter’s oldest bars, Johnny White’s, right across St. Peter Street from legendary Pat O’Briens. Above is the view through the dingy old window. They happened to be shooting a movie that day. Susie sits behind the bar and, if it’s slow, works away at one of her imaginative hats.
On my way across the Quarter, I caught this photo. This is historic Antoine’s Restaurant (My Dinner at Antoine’s, etc). Just prior to opening on a damp and chilly Monday, Antoine’s staff prepares for evening service just as they’ve done for over one hundred and fifty years.
It’s so easy to get caught up in submitting designs for publication, swatching and writing patterns that I feel strongly about knitting on Mondays. Though I haven’t got a new photo, the True North Mittens will be released this Friday and I’m pretty excited about that!
Tonight, the Tipsy Knitters will be taking a field trip to The Artisan Bar & Cafe. I’m hoping the turnout will be good! There will be King Cake from the Cake Cafe, lots of knitting, fun, fellowship and, of course, cocktails! I wish I could see all of you there!
‘Til next time, happy knitting!
