Well, I’ve finished my Drunkard’s Mittens, and at no small cost to my sanity.
The first challenge was to separate the two cables from the full cable pattern, allowing each drunk to take his own path.
That was easy enough. The tricky part was to make the ribbing carry on into the cable design. Having worked this beautifully wrought pattern, “Knotty” by Julia Meuller for Carl at Christmas time, I will never again take for granted the standard 2X2 ribbing. Julia’s pattern has such graceful movement because she paid attention to the ribbing.
Had to take a couple of cracks at it but I’m very happy with it now.
I’ll use the same stitch repeat to make the ribbing for the Drunkard’s Hat which is currently on the needles for the third time. I’d love to wear the hat and mittens for my walk to work tomorrow as we’re expected to finally have some winter weather.
Have I mentioned how much I love this yarn? Lucky thing too because my living room is currently filled with wiggly little pieces of it. Punta Merisoft Solid is 100% Merino and very loosely spun so it has a gorgeous, cloud-like loft. Technically a bulky weight, it has slight slubby areas, just enough to keep cables interesting yet not so much that it distorts them. It is priced very moderately at my LYS ($10.95 per 197 yds.) and comes in a million colors. I’ll be first in line on the 14th when it goes on sale!

Hi,
What beautiful mittens. Do you sell your patterns? I would be most interested in this one. . .Jayne

Hi Jayne! Thanks for stopping by! I do have several patterns available for sale on Ravelry. You can find me here http://www.ravelry.com/designers/cheryl-toy . At present, the Drunkards Mittens are not among them, however, now that I know you’d like it, I’ll try to get it written up in the near future. Cheers, Cheryl
