My world this week has been filled with my favorite things: knitting, sailing, and lots of new yarn! First, the knitting!
SAVEN
Probably the most exciting event in my knit life at the moment is participating in the Saven KAL hosted by designer Meghan Babin. Her Saven pullover was featured alongside Ari in the Hudson + West Co Autumn/Winter 2021 collection. This heavily cabled classic pullover hits all the bases for me and embodies everything I want to wear this fall.
I was so excited when my yarn arrived! I’ve chosen Hudson + West Forge in Aspen for a traditional cabled sweater I can wear as an outer layer down south this winter. I’m picturing it with tall tan boots, jeans, the occasional skirt and maybe a navy blazer. I know I’m going to love it as much as I love knitting, sailing and new yarn!
MOONFLOWER
Sometimes, I get so fired up about an idea that I just can’t let it go. I admit to being obsessed by the motif that forms the yoke of the Moonflower pullover. Once I had the short-sleeved version of Moonflower off the needles and blocked, I realized I was not happy with the fit of the yoke. So, yes, I ripped it back…all the way back.
I’ve reimagined the increase strategy and am perfectly happy to re-knit it. It’s coming along fairly quickly and I know I’ll be happy that I took the time to get it right. That way, I’ll be confident in moving forward with the cardigan version! I’ve received another load of sumptuous new yarn, Luma from The Fibre Co in the Aizome color way and I can’t wait to get started.
BRISBANE
As you may recall, I’ve been working on a redux of the Brisbane Beanie which was featured in Knitscene Winter 2019. I am lengthening the body of the hat and revisiting the crown shaping. I’m working it in Valley Yarns Huntington, a delicious fingering weight merino in the Bluestone color way. This is really a superb yarn with body enough to support the complicated cables. Really, I just need a day of focused knitting to finish this beauty!
BARN SWALLOW
A few weeks ago, a knitter reached out through Ravelry to ask if I had a hat pattern to match the Barn Swallow fingerless mitts. I thought that was a pretty great idea, so I went ahead and designed one! Here’s where we are, just about ready to start the crown shaping. Once again, my kingdom for a day of focused knitting!
MARTHA
You may remember that I finished this pretty raglan several weeks ago. It is the southern take on my original Martha cardigan and is worked in North/South friendly Rowan Cotton Cashmere. Well, Martha has come through her tech edits with flying colors and is ready for a test flight. If you would like to test knit the Martha Pullover, skip over to Yarnpond and throw your hat in the ring. I will most likely release Martha before the testing period is over, so it might feel more like a Knit Along than a straight up test. I’d love to see you there!
SAILING
I am so blessed to be included on the many sailing excursions of my friends Jacques & Paige. We’ve been sailing Lake Pontchartrain just about every week, cruising the brackish waters of the lake, eating yummy food and drinking wine. On a recent trip, I asked Paige if I could photograph her wearing my Tarpon sweater and she agreed. This simple raglan with a watery cable on the sleeve is just right for sailing. A blend of cotton and merino, Tarpon is snuggly without being overly warm. Coming soon to a tester pool near you!
NEW YARN! (YAY!!)
When Miss Laura was on her way home from the north this autumn, she made a stop at Le Mouton Rouge Knittery in Bloomington, Illinois. Boy, was I jealous! Stacks and stacks of gorgeous yarns, buttons, tools and accessories filled every nook and cranny of this store. “Do you want anything?” she asks. Boy, do I! It was a tough choice to make, but in the end, I opted for two skeins of Andorra by Kelbourne Woolens in Holly. I’m envisioning this buttery blend of merino and mohair as a lacy tam just perfect for Christmas. I see myself taking a day off to knit this one, feeling only slightly guilty 😉
