Greetings, knitters, from the hot and foggy Deep South! It’s Carnival Time, we’re havin’ a heat wave and we’re knitting like the wind! There were three parades this week, Krewe of Boheme (of which Miss Laura and I are members), Krewe de Vieux and P’tit Rex which features miniature floats and throws (adorable and very creative).
As members of the Krewe of Goddesses, Laura and I marched with Boheme on Friday night. I cannot express to you how exciting it is to march in a foot parade! People line the streets cheering, drinking and taking photos as you march through the historic French Quarter. Everything sparkles and lights up and there is music everywhere
A LOT of creative effort goes into costumes and throws.Check out Laura’s gorgeous light-up headpiece!
There’s a masked ball at the end where we have an opportunity to dance and admire all the lovely costumes.
It’s also exhausting, so I was very grateful for my knitting time this week. I’m working on a project for Cascade Yarns at the moment in their delicious Llamarino Sport. This yarn is drapey and soft and dreamy and I really love this rhythmic, intuitive stitch pattern. I’m also crazy about the color, Chili Pepper.
I had some submissions due this week so there was a good deal of swatching going on. I know that many knitters don’t care for swatching but I love it. Within that little square is the potential for a perfect-fitting, error-free knit. They’re a little like getting a bonus at work…as long as you don’t open the envelope, you’re a millionaire!
I’ve been working away on my precious little succulent garden and this week, I learned to propagate a few species. With luck (and sunshine!) this eschevaria peacockii will take root and have pups. I’m off to the garden center later today to find a pretty new pot.
That’s all the news for now. Hope you’re having a wonderful, fulfilling week!
Love,
Cheryl
