The new Knitscene, Winter 2017, went live on-line yesterday and will soon be available on newsstands. I’m so thrilled and flattered that my Lykke Sweater has been included in the “Hygge” story in this issue! I adore the Danish concept of Hygge– the art of cozy living. It’s an idea that was dear to my sweet Carl during his life and something he taught me to appreciate too. I think he would have approved!
As always, editor Hannah Baker put forth an inspiring call for submissions; soft, fluffy whites, puffy cables and buttery textures made this theme irresistible. I wanted the sweater to reflect Scandinavian simplicity while focussing on understated detail. Lykke presents simple fields of stockinette edged with deep borders of easy jumbo cables at the hem, cuffs and bateau neck. It is a tunic length sweater with an easy fit and subtle shaping provided by the cabled edge.
The yarn, HiKoo Simpliworsted by Scakel, is a fluffy, puffy, bouncy meringue of a yarn, S-plied for superior smoothness. Simpliworsted is a blend of superwash merino, acrylic and nylon, so itt’s an easy-care yarn, making it a perfect sweater length for younger or newer knitters. It’s available everywhere in a ton of candy-box colors.
As a publication, Knitscene focusses on pieces that are “modern, smart, a little unusual and a bridge between easy and intermediate knitting”. I think this collection hits the mark entirely! Thanks so much to everyone at Knitscene for such a positive experience!
