Wah La! I’m half way there!
Third time’s a charm! Working in two colors made me realize how important left and right leaning decreases can be. Obviously I’ve made a couple of mistakes in that department but…I’m sure they’ll look better once they are blocked and have the ends woven in. I’ve deviated from Heather’s original Ruba’iyat Mittens pattern by adding braided trim to the bottom edge. This is a traditional stitch often found in Nordic knitting and is tremendously fun and easy to knit. I found the instructions on Mary Ann’s “Two Strands” blog and have reprinted it here on my Patterns Page.
Carl loves his new mitties, and made me one of Mary Ann Stephens’ nifty mitten blockers. This is a simple but ingenious idea for blocking anything knit in the round. Thanks for everything, Mary Ann!
While we’re on the subject of cold and wintry climes, check out these incredible images of crop circles in the snow.
Carl found these online and thought they resembled the fabulous Gansey sweaters I’ve been raving about. Good eye, honey!
Apparently, these are made by a British snow-shoe enthusiast Simon Beck, who painstakingly steps out these intricate patterns during spells of fine weather. Puts my snow angels to shame.
