And They Feasted…

Last week was a blur. So much preparation, so much excitement, so much eating. Oh my goodness. We had an absolutely wonderful week including all the prep. Isn’t that the way? You think you’re preparing for an event and that the event will be the apex. In hindsight, you realize that getting there was half the fun. I like that!

Part of “getting there” was celebrating the second birthday of The Artisan Cafe & Bar which is owned by a friend and has become a haunt. (Chargrilled Oysters for breakfast, anyone?) Deacon John performed with a 6 piece band, all of whom are seasoned New Orleans side men and virtuosos in their own right. Look at the music stands covered with what is called The American Song Book. Every side man has one of these along with a dark suit, probably a tuxedo and a nice pair of shiny shoes. I love how dog-eared and tattered they become, making their appearance gig after gig over many years. They almost become sculpture. (Check out the necktie and Red Bull!)

I did find an outfit and in the end, I think it was one of my all-time favorites. A natty little gray dress, sleeveless and with a skinny belt, a glorious red hat, red leather gloves and the most adorable red booties you’ve ever seen. I topped it off with ropes of pearls, a vintage red handbag and, later in the day, a long checked jacket that I picked up a month or so ago for a crazy low price. We had a great day!

Originally, we were meant to have a turkey dinner but then found that many of our A-list were working that day. We decided to postpone turkey until we could all be together. Instead I did a huge pan of lasagna, homemade meatballs and antipasto. We had lots of leftovers to give away, which is always fun.

The very next day, sore feet notwithstanding, I hopped out of bed, ran down the bar and made it snow!

I’d been cutting snowflakes for days, waiting until after Thanksgiving to put them up. Thanks to Laura for all the help! This is something I’ve done in the past. I’m proud to say I’ve made it snow in some pretty cool New Orleans bars! Anyway, there’s more to come. My plan is to layer up more and more flakes until we reach blizzard proportions by the time we leave for Costa Rica on the 17th.

Meanwhile, on the needles…

I’ve been wanting to design a hat to match my Sackets Harbor Mittens for quite some time. I started a while ago and have since changed yarns, tweeked a bit, and had it tested. I’m hoping to release the Sackets Harbor Hat this Friday as a BOGO with the matching mittens. Wait til you see the finished hat! Think snow falling on frozen water and a big fluffy pompom! Can’t wait to share it with you on Friday!

Until then, happy knitting!

You look fabulous – as does the “snowed-in” bar! 😀

I'd love to hear from you!
